In April 2018, Visa introduced changes to its chargeback dispute process, referred to as Visa Claims Resolution (VCR). Under this new program, Visa has introduced new chargeback reason codes that fall within four distinct categories:
- Fraud
- Authorization
- Processing Errors
- Consumer Disputes
Kount Support of New Codes
Kount supports the new VCR codes within the UI and also Restful API.
If merchants use the API, they can submit the new reason codes and their descriptions. Codes submitted via API are reflected in the AWC and Datamart. Alternatively, merchants can use the UI to select from new and refer to legacy codes.
The following Visa chargeback code maps are organized by category, as defined by Visa. Merchants who previously applied legacy codes to chargebacks for the purposes of reporting and rule-writing can continue to refer to the legacy codes. Additionally, they can select from corresponding, updated codes when adding new chargebacks. Note the following:
- Some new codes do not have legacy counterparts and should be coded 0 – Unknown/Unspecified.
- Some legacy codes are no longer supported by a chargeback reason.
- Some legacy codes encompass multiple reasons; new mapping recognizes the individual reasons as separate number and reason combinations.
